Drum major in the marching band, secretary of Hispanic Honor Society, and member of the NHS, Francisca Gomez is a little more than  your average senior.

Although it may seem difficult, Gomez is juggling through all her extra curricular activities stress-free.

“For the most part band is during the week. I get community service hours for HHS and NHS on the weekends. I manage my time well, so it doesn’t really stress me out,” said Gomez.

As head drum major, Gomez is very helpful to fellow bandmates. She is the perfect ”go-to” person, but can also show a kind of tough love when necessary.

“I think that she is a great leader and has the perfect personality to be a drum major,” junior Griffin Prince said. “She’s bossy, but not in a rude way.”

Not only is she loved by her peers, but teachers also appreciate Gomez and her willingness to help others.

“Francisca is a wonderful leader,” head band director Cari Martin said. “She is dedicated and thoughtful to every individual in the entire band program. She is also willing to help anyone that needs it.”

Gomez signed up for band her sixth grade year, and has been involved in the program ever since. Her junior year she tried out for leadership team and made the cut. This year, after trying out, she was given the much-deserved opportunity to become head drum major.

“I always wanted to be a drum major,” Gomez said. “I loved being in band and becoming drum major has made me love it even more.”
