I don’t know about you guys, but I absolutely love all things Pinterest! From makeup tutorials to planning my future home; it doesn’t matter. However, I never really tried any of the tutorials, because seeing all the Pinterest fails everywhere, they became sort of intimidating.

Well, deciding to man up some, I tried to do the “Food Coloring Carnations DIY”. Let’s just say the results were interesting…

The instructions for this DIY are as followed:

Fill up a cup/vase halfway with water
Add a few drops of food coloring to the water
Mix the food coloring and water together
Cut the carnation’s stem at an angle and not on a knot.
Put the carnation in the colored water and let it sit for a day

When doing this DIY I used the colors on the color wheel, (red, red-orange, orange, yellow-orange, yellow, yellow-green, etc.). Some of the carnations turned out really good, but others did not.

Here is what the carnations looked like after a day:

Just like you can see a lot of the flowers are still white, so I let them soak for another day. They looked better, but some of the flowers didn’t soak up the food coloring at all. For example, the carnation with the purple water mixture wouldn’t take the pigment.

Even though the outcome was not what I would have preferred, all in all, this do it yourself project was really fun. If you are wanting an easy and fun project to do, I would definitely recommend this DIY, and for the best results, use colors such as red, orange, yellow, green, and blue.
